rainwater tank installation guide
- use materials that cannot be scoured by animals, water course, wind or a cascading overflow;
- ensure that the kernel of the tank is fully supported as this is the area where most force is exerted on the tank particularly when filled;
- ensure that no sharp objects such as tree roots or jagged stone can protrude through to the bottom of the tank that can pierce the tank material.
- The installation of tank equipment is an important element of your purchase. Correct installation can assist in providing long service life and avoidance of any risk to support equipmet and environmental effects that can occur in the extended life of this equipment.
preperation
- Set out a level, compacted and firm base: -
- flexible connection
- check all connections and fastenings for a range of events. Add some water to the tank;
- inspect the bottom connections for drips or alignment of fittings;
- look to see that the tank is evenly supported whether on a stand or prepared base and the support protrudes beyond the kernel of the tank;
- make sure that all fittings have the interenal components fully inserted with teh correct orientation and any locking nut securly tightened.
- When connecting inlets and outlets to tank equipment it is preferable to allow flexible pipe connection or entry points that allow for some movement and loose connection, as long as the content does not escape from the connection.
Tanks when full usually have some expansion in shape or size and when empty revert back to origional shape.**Tank equipment, particularly when empty can be moved by wind gusts; **Pump equipment when attached to tanks generate some vibration and rigid connection tends to cause damage from various forces when in these circumstances.
Thus it is advisable to allow any connection to be non-rigid in many cases.
There are exceptions as when the complete system is of a larger configuration, when under constant and stable loading and when equipment is firmly anchored.
